Phil Foden did not settle for Manchester City emerging victorious from the Manchester derby; he made sure to send a provocative message to Manchester United fans while leaving Old Trafford, despite receiving an early red card in the match.

Phil Foden had a contrasting night as he left the pitch after just 23 minutes following his red card for kicking Bruno. This decision was made by referee Michael Oliver immediately, before being confirmed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Despite playing most of the match with ten men, Manchester City secured the derby with a goal from Erling Haaland in the second half, although the goal sparked significant controversy due to Enzo Fernández being in an offside position during the build-up. This was a mistake that the Pro Ref company later apologized for.

After the final whistle, Foden, 26 years old, was seen gesturing with his hands to the score of 1-0 in front of the Manchester United fans as he left the pitch, confirming that he wanted to have the last word despite his early dismissal.

Manchester City player is set to miss the next three domestic matches due to a red card for violent conduct. He is expected to be absent for the match against Norwich in the EFL Cup in the middle of the week, as well as for the league matches against Sunderland and Liverpool.

Enzo Maresca, Manchester City manager, defended the referee's decision to send off Phil Foden, confirming his agreement with the red card. However, he stressed at the same time that Bruno should have received the same punishment for his challenge on a City player.

Mariska stated: "Phil's card is a red card, but I also think that Bruno Fernandes' same action deserves a red card. When I reviewed the incident, which I did immediately, Phil's sending off was clear as it was a reaction."

He added: "But you can also see Bruno committing a foul against Foden. Anyway, that's what happened. A red card, but we won. Last year I was here with Chelsea and we received a red card after three minutes, so I was hoping this time the story would be different."
