Mainoo's move to SSC Napoli was close as Carrick changes player's path
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Kobbie Mainoo was very close to a loan move to SSC Napoli during the winter transfer window, before the arrival of Michael Carrick changed everything in the player's career with Manchester United.
Fabrizio Romano explained via his YouTube channel that Kobbie Mainoo was out of the plans of former coach Ruben Amorim, and that his transfer to SSC Napoli was very real and advanced before the coaching change and the arrival of Michael Carrick.
Romano stated: "Michael Carrick has arrived and Kobbie Mainoo has immediately become a key part of the project. Now at Manchester United, they are extremely happy with Kobbie, as he has signed a new contract and has become an important part of the present and future project. The player himself is also very happy."
He added: "Life has completely changed for Kobbie Mainoo, and at the club they are convinced that this was a very smart decision."
Kobbie Mainoo continues to shine with the Carrick team, despite Manchester United signing Youri Tielemans, Carlos Baleba, and André Santos in midfield during the summer.
