Ronaldo calls for punishment of Al-Taawun fans after Jota chants

Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of Al-Nassr, has urged the Saudi Pro League to take action against some Al-Taawoun fans due to chants that carried the name of his late compatriot Diogo Jota during the match against Al-Hilal.

Cristiano Ronaldo has responded via his Instagram account after fans circulated a clip from the incident that occurred during the Al-Hilal and Al-Taawoun match, which ended in a six-goal victory for Al-Hilal.

The captain of Al-Nassr has called for clear penalties against those involved in these actions, stating that what happened has crossed the boundaries of sports competition and should not be part of football.

Ronaldo has called for fans who participated in the chants to be banned from entering stadiums again, emphasizing the need to deal firmly with any transgression that touches on the memory of a deceased person.

Fans of Al-Taawoun chanted the name of Diogo Jota, a friend and former teammate of Rúben Neves in the Portugal national team, during the match, in an attempt to influence the Al-Hilal player.

The matter angered Neves, who appeared affected during the match, before expressing his displeasure at the end about the exploitation of his late friend's memory in this way.

Solidarity with Neves has extended to several players and sports figures, including Saleh Abu Al-Shamat, a player for Al-Ahli, who criticized the limits of sports fanaticism on Instagram.

Saleh Abu Al-Shamat stated that no matter how intense the rivalry may be, it does not justify gloating over someone's death or insulting their family. He stressed the importance of respecting sports values and maintaining the image of Saudi society.

In a related context, Cristiano Ronaldo sent a message to Al-Nassr fans after the team drew 1-1 with Al Khaleej in the 7th round of the Saudi Pro League.

Al-Nassr captain shared a photo from the match on his Instagram account, writing: "We continue to move forward, together," in a message that reflects his commitment to continue the journey despite losing two more points.

Al-Nassr fell behind against Al Khaleej after the opponent opened the scoring, before Abdullah Al-Hamdan equalised, resulting in both teams earning one point.

The match saw Cristiano Ronaldo continue his goal drought, as he failed to find the net for the third consecutive game in the Saudi Pro League, marking his longest such streak since joining Al-Nassr and the Saudi Pro League.
