Rúben Neves angered by Al-Taawoun fans taunting with name of Jota

A group of Al-Taawoun fans provoked Rúben Neves, the Al-Hilal player, during the match between the two teams in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday, by deliberately taunting him with the name of his compatriot and close friend Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in the summer of 2025.

During a stoppage in play, a group of Al-Taawoun fans began chanting the name of Diogo Jota, clearly attempting to influence Rúben Neves, who had a strong friendship with the late player since their time together at Wolverhampton, and their friendship continued over the past years.

Rúben Neves appeared angry and affected by the provocation, responding to the fans with sarcastic applause before raising his finger to the sky, in a gesture that seemed to indicate he was telling them that God is watching what they are doing.

Diogo Jota is considered one of Rúben Neves' closest friends, and the latter appeared deeply affected during the tribute ceremony held in memory of his colleague and friend following his tragic death.
