Controversial draw memories haunt Real Madrid ahead of Elche clash
Real Madrid prepare to face Elche on Tuesday at the Martínez Valero Stadium, in a match that recalls the last encounter between the two teams at the same ground last season, which ended in a 2-2 draw amid controversy over one of the key moments.
Elche took the lead twice during the match before Real Madrid equalised through Jude Bellingham with four minutes remaining. This moment sparked protests from the home team's players, who claimed a foul should have been awarded to their goalkeeper Iñaki Peña following a collision with Vinícius.
Vivas had given Elche the lead early in the second half, before Haussen equalised 12 minutes from the end. In the 84th minute, Álvaro Rodríguez restored Elche's lead, but Bellingham scored the equaliser just two minutes later.
The draw ended a part of Elche's negative results streak, having suffered two consecutive defeats before the match.
Elche last defeated Real Madrid at home in the 1977/1978 season, winning 3-1. Since then, the two teams have met at Elche's ground on eight occasions, with Real Madrid achieving six victories and two draws.
In total, Real Madrid have visited Elche's stadium 25 times, achieving 11 wins, compared to six victories for the home team and eight draws.
