Zidane calls up Luka Da Cunha in preliminary France squad
French newspaper «Le Parisien» has revealed that Luca Da Cunha, captain of Italian side Como, has received an initial call-up from Zinedine Zidane, the new head coach of the French national team, in preparation for the upcoming official squad.
This is the first time that the 25-year-old midfielder has entered the considerations of the French national team, having established himself recently as one of the standout stars of Como, who have started their UEFA Champions League campaign this season strongly, achieving a big win against Leipzig by four goals to one.
Da Cunha has joined Como three years ago, having previously played for Rennes and Nice. He succeeded with the Italian team in progressing from Serie B to Serie A, before embarking on his first European experience this season.
The player has become a key figure within the team and serves as an important link between the players and Spanish coach Cesc Fàbregas, which has caught Zidane's attention and led him to include his name in his preliminary list of around 50 players.
Zinedine Zidane is set to announce his official squad on Friday, September 18, which will reveal whether Da Costa will receive his first official call-up to represent the French national team.
