Barrios to miss Madrid derby due to injury

Atlético have suffered another blow ahead of their clash with Real Sociedad, with midfielder Pablo Barrios set to miss time due to an injury sustained during the match against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

Barrios finished the match against Liverpool while suffering from some pain, before undergoing medical tests to determine the nature of the injury and the duration of his absence from the pitch.

Atlético have confirmed that a player is suffering from a "low-grade injury to the muscle fascia in the right leg", ruling him out of the match against Real Sociedad scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, as well as the game against CA Osasuna on Wednesday.

Barrios is expected to miss the Madrid derby against Real Madrid on Sunday, September 20, as it is difficult for him to recover in time for the match. He will use the international break to recover and return to team training.

Parios' injury is a significant blow for Atlético's midfield, especially as coach Diego Simeone considers the player one of his key elements in this position, having publicly described him as the best midfielder in the team.

Simeone currently has several options to replace Barrios, including Koke, Morten Hjulmand, and Carlos Cardoso, along with Mendoza and Vargas, as he awaits to determine which substitute he will rely on during the upcoming matches.
