Neville warns Carrick: stop using Yoro at right-back

Gary Neville, the former Manchester United star, has criticized Michael Carrick, the team's manager, for relying on the French defender Leny Yoro in the right-back position, urging him not to repeat the experiment in the upcoming period.

Leny Yoro participated in the 84th minute of the match between Manchester United and Everton, which ended in a 2-2 draw, after coming on for Diogo Dalot and playing as a right-back. However, the 20-year-old player faced clear difficulties in this role, as he moved tightly inward and at times appeared to be a third defender in the back line.

The attack that led to Everton's killer goal in stoppage time originated from the side where Leny Yoro played, as he faced criticism for not getting close enough to Jack Grealish and failing to prevent the cross that set up the equalizing goal.

Neville said: "I don't think Yoro understands the right-back position, and that's natural, as many centre-backs don't understand this role. But we need to stop pushing him there and thinking of him as a right-back." He added that Carrick may see Yoro as a defensive option in that position, similar to how Liverpool use Ronald Araujo at right-back.

Carrick had started experimenting with Yoro in the right-back position during the pre-season, explaining that his decision was not solely based on the player's original position, but also on his ability to read the game, remain calm under pressure, and contribute to build-up play. However, Yoro returned to his usual center-back position during Manchester United's 4-0 victory over Sabah, playing the full match alongside Lisandro Martínez.
