AS Roma players wear special shirt to support Nepal against Fenerbahçe
In a remarkable humanitarian gesture, AS Roma have decided to use their match against Fenerbahçe in the UEFA Champions League to convey a message of solidarity with the people of Nepal, after Turkish advertising laws prevented the usual sponsor logo 'Eurobet' from appearing on the team's shirts during the scheduled encounter in Istanbul.
Instead of leaving the sponsor's space empty, AS Roma has partnered with the World Food Programme of the United Nations to display its logo on the front of the shirt alongside the phrase "Together for Nepal". This initiative aims to highlight the difficult humanitarian conditions faced by those affected by floods and landslides in Nepal.
The initiative by AS Roma will not stop at a symbolic message, as the club announced that the shirts worn by the players during the match will be put up for auction after the game, with all proceeds going to support the relief efforts carried out by the World Food Programme to assist those affected in Nepal.
This step comes at a time when around 43,000 people in Nepal are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, according to the World Food Programme, as AS Roma once again affirms the ability of football to transcend the boundaries of the pitch and turn sporting events into a platform for solidarity and support for those affected by disasters.
