Yamal opens his free-kick account with Barcelona
Lamine Yamal continues to set remarkable records with FC Barcelona, scoring his first direct free-kick goal for the Catalan team against Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League.
Before this match, Yamal had taken 7 free kicks with FC Barcelona over the last three seasons without scoring from any of them. He had found the net against Girona from a free kick in the 2024/2025 season, but the goal was mistakenly credited to defender Krietchi as an own goal.
In the absence of Raphinha, the usual free-kick taker, Yamal received the ball after a foul on Dani Olmo, who passed it to him. The Spanish player struck the free-kick powerfully, taking advantage of the poor positioning of the wall, to announce his first goal from a direct free-kick with FC Barcelona.
Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" highlighted the goal, noting that Yamal dedicated his goals to Raphinha, who anticipated his scoring after noticing his feelings of frustration, before the young player succeeded in finding the net.
Lamine Yamal captained FC Barcelona for the first time in a UEFA Champions League match, adding another milestone to his journey with the team.
The newspaper pointed out that Lionel Messi needed years to become the specialist in taking free kicks at FC Barcelona, before reaching 50 goals from free kicks while wearing the club's shirt. Meanwhile, Yamal has now opened his account, beginning his journey in this aspect.
