Pochettino calls for Premier League title to be taken from Chelsea and awarded to Tottenham
Maurício Pochettino has called for the Premier League title won by Chelsea in 2017 to be stripped and awarded to Tottenham, following violations committed by the London club related to player agent payments.
Maurício Pochettino, who was managing Tottenham at the time, stated in comments reported by The Telegraph: "We should have been awarded the Premier League title. They were punished, and they admitted it, and that’s it. The title should go to the team that finished second."
The Argentine coach added: "We were not competing under the same rules," before clarifying: "Now we can say that they scored the goals and won the matches, but we were not competing under the same rules."
Tottenham finished the 2016-2017 season in second place behind Chelsea, having collected 86 points, seven points behind the champions.
Maurício Pochettino's comments came after Chelsea were punished for breaches of the English FA's rules regarding payments and intermediaries during Roman Abramovich's ownership.
