Warning for Alexander Arnold's future with Real Madrid

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has warned that Trent Alexander-Arnold may not earn the trust of manager José Mourinho in big matches with Real Madrid, whether he is relied upon in midfield or at right-back.

Koulibaly's remarks came in response to Mourinho's praise for Alexander Arnold's performance during Real Madrid's victory over AC Milan in their Champions League opener, where the English player participated in midfield due to the absence of Eduardo, Arda Güler, and Bernardo Silva because of suspensions.

Jose Mourinho spoke about Alexander Arnold: "I thank him for his efforts to play in a position that is not his. It is very clear that his qualities qualify him to play as a full-back and not in midfield."

The Portuguese coach added: "He has played in midfield with England and Liverpool, but he is not a midfielder. He performed very well and executed what was required of him tactically, but he lost some balls because playing in this position is different from the right-back position."

Jose Mourinho praised the physical effort put in by the player, stating he gave '100 percent' and had nothing left to offer upon leaving the pitch. However, Joe Cole believes this praise carries a clear message regarding Alexander Arnold's standing in Mourinho's plans, especially with the competition for the right-back position against new signing Denzel Dumfries.
