Kaoru Mitoma's future with Brighton is in doubt after contract renewal talks stalled, amid fears he could leave in January or for free at the end of the season.

Kaoru Mitoma, aged 29, has a contract that runs until June 30, 2027, after he extended his deal for four years in October 2023. He earns around £80,000 a week.

Fabian Huttsler confirmed in March that negotiations were ongoing with Kaoru Mitoma regarding a new contract, but TEAMtalk reported that progress in talks has stalled as Mitoma hesitates to commit to continuing his career with Brighton due to increasing interest in signing him.

Kaoru Mitoma has joined Brighton from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021 and has become one of the team's standout players, before suffering a hamstring injury last May that ruled him out for the rest of the 2025/2026 season and the World Cup. He is expected to return in mid-October.

Brighton hope that his return to the pitch will help resume contract renewal negotiations, but current indications suggest he may leave the club sooner than expected.
