Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper for Real Madrid and the Belgium national team, has made a surprising decision regarding his participation with his country in the UEFA Nations League, confirming that he will not be available for the tournament matches in the upcoming period.

Thibaut Courtois explained that he made the decision after a conversation with Mark van Bommel, the head coach of Belgium, saying: "After a conversation with Mark van Bommel, I decided not to play in the UEFA Nations League, unless the coach faces problems due to injuries."

As a result, the Belgian goalkeeper will not participate if his national team qualifies for the final round of the competition, as he confirmed he will not be available for the semi-final.

Thibaut Courtois added: "I will be available for the Euro 2028 qualifiers, but Mark van Bommel told me he cannot guarantee my starting position afterwards if he is satisfied with the level of the goalkeeper who will participate in the UEFA Nations League."

Courtois concluded his remarks by emphasizing his desire to compete fiercely for his position, stating: "But I want to fight for my place."

Thibaut Courtois' decision comes at a time when the veteran goalkeeper is striving to keep his spot as Belgium's number one, as the coaching staff is keen to give another goalkeeper a chance during the UEFA Nations League matches, which could open the door for new competition for the starting position.
