Huijsen: Mourinho puts a lot of pressure on me, and it was a crazy match
Dean Huijsen spoke after Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League, stating that the match was crazy and that the team could have settled it early if they had taken advantage of the chances they had.
Dean Huijsen said, "Inter is a great team, and in recent years they have reached the UEFA Champions League final twice. We need to continue like this because the three points are what matters. I think we played a good match, and if we had managed to score the third goal, the match would have ended."
Regarding his relationship with José Mourinho, the Spanish defender said: "Mourinho is very close to me. He pushes me a lot, and that is good because he knows the abilities I have. He helps me a lot and I am happy about that."
Regarding José Mourinho's instructions on building play from the back, Huijsen explained: "As I told you, he puts a lot of pressure on me to develop and take that step forward that I believe I have already started to take. We need to continue in this way. Five matches in football mean nothing, and we need to deliver a good full season."
Regarding the boos from the fans at Santiago Bernabéu, he said: "I think it was a crazy match for the most part. We had many chances, some of which were very clear to score. If we had managed to take advantage of them, we could have won by five or six goals. These are the demands of playing at Real Madrid, the best club in the world and the biggest club, and we work every day to improve."
Regarding the team's struggles more than expected, he added: "It was a crazy match, but I think if we had scored the third goal, the match would have been over. We had a chance at the end of the first half, and in the second half, we had many chances as well. At that point, the match would have been decided."
Speaking about Kylian Mbappé's chances of winning the Ballon d'Or, Dean Huijsen said: "I don't know, I'm not one of those who votes, but I think he has a very good chance. We all know the quality he possesses. He is an extremely special player, and I hope he continues to score a lot of goals for us."
Regarding José Mourinho's demand for more competitiveness from the players, he clarified: "We need to be a bit more competitive, as the coach said. In the end, when you see a slight foul, you can exaggerate it a bit and get a yellow card, while when it happens the other way around, we get up and the opponent doesn't receive a card. Football is also about emotions, and we need to be more competitive."
Regarding the defensive partnership with Ibrahima Konaté, he concluded: "He is a beast. Defensively he is very good, and with the ball too, he is strong, fast, and tall. He excels in duels, and I think we have gelled well together."
