Infantino insists on running for a new term despite the crisis

Despite the pressures and escalating crisis within FIFA, the President of the International Football Federation, Gianni Infantino, has confirmed that he will run for another term in the FIFA presidency elections scheduled for 2027.

Infantino had already announced his intention to run for election last April, but criticism directed at him has increased in recent months, particularly regarding a project to establish a commercial company to sell rights related to the FIFA World Cup to investors, a project that was later abandoned after widespread opposition.

European pressure on Infantino is mounting as European federations demand reforms in FIFA governance, with some federations withdrawing their support for his candidacy. However, the FIFA president still enjoys strong backing from federations in other parts of the world.

Elections are set to take place during the FIFA World Cup conference in Morocco in March 2027, while those wishing to challenge Infantino must submit their nominations by November 18, 2026.
