New technology cancels Espí's goal against Real Betis

The final minutes of the match between Real Betis and Real Madrid at La Cartuja were filled with excitement, as the Andalusian team secured the victory with a goal to nil, amidst two controversial situations, the most notable being the disallowance of a stunning goal scored by Carlos Espí.

According to "Mundo Deportivo", Espí, who entered the pitch in the 87th minute, scored a goal from a bicycle kick that would have given Real Madrid an equaliser, but referee Alejandro Hernández did not resume play after receiving a notification from the VAR room to review the start of the attack.

A review showed an offside on a Real Madrid attacker at the start of the move, leading to the goal being disallowed thanks to the new technology used this season in La Liga, which consists of a chip inside the ball known as the sensor ball.

This technology allows for precise identification of the offside moment and the point of contact, which helped in the decision to disallow a goal by Real Madrid.

Technology intervened during the first half in a corner kick incident, after the referee awarded the kick believing that Real Betis goalkeeper had saved a shot from Hausen. However, the technology and the image showed that the ball had hit the crossbar, leading to a goal kick awarded to Real Betis.
