Luuk de Jong nears return and shows openness to continue his career

It seems that Dutch forward Luuk de Jong, former FC Porto player, is not thinking about retiring from football, despite reaching 36 years of age and suffering a serious knee ligament injury late last year.

According to Dutch newspaper 'De Telegraaf', Frenkie de Jong's recovery from his knee injury is going very well, having spent the past few months in Portugal working hard on his rehabilitation program. The forward recently moved to the Netherlands, where he is undergoing the final stage of recovery under the supervision of a personal trainer.

Frenkie de Jong has become a free agent after FC Porto decided not to activate the option to extend his contract, following an injury he sustained at the beginning of December that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The experienced striker may embark on a new adventure and continue his professional career, likely outside the Netherlands. He previously confirmed that he would not play in his country for any club other than PSV Eindhoven, especially as the team currently has good options at the centre-forward position.

Frenkie de Jong has had two spells at PSV Eindhoven, where he made 338 appearances, scored 186 goals and provided 98 assists. He also won the Eredivisie five times with the club, in addition to winning the league title with Twente.

Throughout his career, de Jong has also played for De Graafschap, Newcastle United, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Sevilla, and Barcelona, winning the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla.
