Major blow for Juventus: Thuram undergoes surgery and will miss until 2027

Juventus have suffered a major blow as midfielder Khéphren Thuram is set to be sidelined until January 2027 due to a knee issue he has been struggling with since the end of the 2025/2026 season.

Football Italia reported that Khéphren Thuram will undergo knee surgery tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, after a specialist's recommendation, with an expected absence of around four months.

Juventus midfielder has visited knee specialist Bertrand Soneri Couté in Lyon earlier this week, with reports from "La Gazzetta dello Sport" and "Sport Mediaset" indicating that the doctor recommended surgery.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the surgical procedure aims to treat cartilage wear covering the back of the kneecap, and is performed using arthroscopy.

Khéphren Thuram did not participate in any Friendlies with Juventus during the pre-season, and he conducted most of his training separately from his teammates throughout the summer.

Juventus have sought to address Khéphren Thuram's absence by signing Pape Sarr on loan from Tottenham with an option to buy on the final day of the transfer window, to bolster the team's midfield options during the early part of the season.

Khéphren Thuram's injury comes as another Juventus player, Kenan Yıldız, is also sidelined after recently undergoing surgery for a foot fracture, and he is expected to be out for at least three months.
