Trabzonspor president reveals reason for rejecting coach's resignation

Trabzonspor's president, Ertuğrul Doğan, explained why he rejected the resignation of head coach Fatih Tekke after the defeat against Ferencvárosi in the UEFA Europa League.

Trabzonspor have exited the UEFA Europa League after a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvárosi in the qualifying round. Following the defeat, coach Fatih Terim announced his resignation from Trabzonspor, but the club's management rejected his resignation and decided to keep the experienced coach in his position.

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan stated in remarks to the Turkish newspaper "HT Spor": "Fatih Tekke from Trabzon, who is a supporter of Trabzonspor, looks at things from a different perspective; he experiences joy and sadness in a different way."

He added: "The defeat in the match? There was very poor officiating, but this was a momentary decision; the nature of the Black Sea region and the different nature of Trabzon led Fatih Tekke to announce his resignation."

Ertuğrul Doğan confirmed: "The matter stemmed from Fatih Tekke's sadness, he had no hidden motives or bad intentions; I emphasize this, he made a momentary decision, it was not the right decision, we spoke with him, and he is already aware that it was wrong."

The president explained that his team aspires to win the title of the UEFA Europa League, the Turkish Süper Lig, and the Turkish Cup, stating: "We continue our journey in the Turkish Süper Lig, the UEFA Europa League, and the Turkish Cup; our goal is to be at the top in all competitions."

Speaking about the club's moves to sign strikers, Trabzonspor's president joked: "It is difficult to find a striker that our coach likes; he was the top scorer in Turkey's history, but we have names we are working on."
