French legend Michel Platini has revealed his candidate for the 2026 Ballon d'Or during his appearance on Canal Football Club today.

Platini, a three-time winner of the award, stated that he is placing a "small bet" on Paris Saint-Germain's Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, highlighting the significant role he played in the French team's second UEFA Champions League title.

Michel explained: "I place a small bet on a Paris Saint-Germain player, Kvaratskhelia," adding: "I think he has made Paris Saint-Germain win the UEFA Champions League, and that's why I place a small bet on him. I didn't say he is my favorite candidate, but I am betting on him a little."

Platini considers that Kvaratskhelia, who scored 10 goals and provided 7 assists, has real chances despite Georgia's absence from the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Platini has mentioned four other names in the competition, including Kylian Mbappé as the most effective player, Rodri, whom he described as a very important player for any team, Lamine Yamal as "the most talented and artistic in football", and Fabián Ruiz as the player who has "won everything".

Platini was not the only one to lend his support to Kvaratskhelia, as former French star Samir Nasri also chose the Georgian winger as his preferred candidate to win the Ballon d'Or.

The 70th Ballon d'Or ceremony is set to take place on October 26, 2026, in London, with competition appearing more open than ever.
