Fatih Tekke, the head coach of Trabzonspor, has announced his resignation after a heavy defeat against Ferencváros on Thursday evening in the second leg of the qualifying playoff for the 2026/2027 UEFA Europa League.

Trabzonspor suffered a heavy defeat, losing 4-0 to Ferencváros, failing to qualify for the Europa League and moving on to the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Fatih Terim stated: "We had a very sad night, and my staff and I take responsibility. We caused a sad night for our country and our club, and we failed to qualify for the Europa League."

He added: "For 18 months, my staff and I have been thinking day and night about how to deliver a better performance for our club. The team will be much better, that is for sure, but I will not prolong this period, and I am resigning now."

He stated: "We put in a lot of effort, but from now on I announce my resignation. That defeat is unacceptable, and I ask for forgiveness from everyone. We gave it our all, and sometimes things don't go as planned, and sometimes situations reach a point where we are forced to make a decision."

He added: "No one knows this, but as I said, I am resigning now from my position. I have some right to impose that penalty on myself. We did very valuable work, but unfortunately, I have resigned from that position which was an honor for me."

Trabzonspor's coach stated: "Today's defeat is unacceptable; losses are for me and victories are for my players. Disasters can be acceptable, but I cannot accept this. I can't sleep this way; mistakes sometimes lead to such outcomes, and there's nothing we can do."
