Guendouzi Defends His Actions Against Lyon Fans: They Insulted My Mother and Family

French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, currently with Fenerbahçe, has defended his actions during and after the match against Olympique Lyon. He stated that the French fans directed insults and abuse towards him and his family throughout the warm-up and the game.

Guendouzi said: "It was a special and different situation for me, as I had previously played for Olympique Marseille, and Marseille is a rival of Lyon. We need to clarify that throughout the warm-up and before the match, a large part of the Lyon fans were chanting collectively with abusive phrases against my mother, my family, and my children."

He added: "There were 50 or 55 thousand fans chanting insults against me and my family at the same time. In France, when such things happen, someone takes the microphone and asks the crowd to stop. If the chants continue, the match is paused for about 5 minutes, and if it persists after that, the match is canceled."

The Fenerbahce player stated: "Unfortunately, there are no such measures in the Champions League, the Europa League, or any other tournament."

Guendouzi confirmed that it wasn't easy for him, stating that his family's abuse for over 120 minutes "makes the situation complicated," stressing that what happened is "absolutely unacceptable." However, he clarified that the most important thing for him was achieving victory and qualifying for the Champions League.
