Barcelona Intensifies Standoff with Atletico Over Alvarez Deal

Rafa Yuste, Vice President of Barcelona, has strongly rebutted the fiery statements made by Miguel Angel Gil Marin, CEO of Atletico Madrid, concerning the future of Argentine Julian Alvarez, asserting that the Madrid official's remarks have crossed the line of acceptability.

Yuste's remarks came after attending the UEFA Champions League draw as a representative of Barcelona, where he found himself directly facing the escalating tensions between the two clubs due to Barcelona's interest in signing Alvarez.

Barcelona's vice president stated: "What surprises me is that Gel Marin, whom I know, made these comments. This is a lack of courtesy and respect," stressing that the Barcelona management, its sports department, and all club staff have maintained professionalism over the years.

Yoosti added: "These words crossed the red line. I don't understand them at all, nor do I share them; in fact, they anger me," in a direct response to Gil Marin's accusations against Barcelona's management for lacking ethics and transparency in the case of the Argentine striker.

Barcelona's vice president revealed that he exchanged greetings and chatted with Enrique Cerezo and Gil Marin before the draw ceremony, stating: "We exchanged greetings because I believe that courtesy is one of the values we must uphold in life."

He continued: "I spoke with President Enrique Cerezo and the Gil family, and we exchanged our feelings. I told them that we are calm because our conscience does not allow us to do anything outside the standards followed by the club."

Despite the significant escalation between the two parties, Yuste refused to definitively clarify Barcelona's stance on the Alvarez transfer, emphasizing that the transfer window is not yet closed. He stated: "There are still a few days left until the market closes, and that’s all there is to it."

The Catalan official reiterated that his current priority is to defend Barcelona and the staff involved in the sports project, particularly Deco and Bojan, stating: "What happened is a crossing of the red line."

These statements heighten the conflict between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, as Gil Marin clearly announced that his club will not negotiate with Barcelona regarding Alvarez, while the future of the Argentine striker remains a major point of interest with the transfer window closing soon.
