Spotify Camp Nou Set to Host Champions League Final 2029

Camp Nou tops the list of candidates to host the UEFA Champions League final scheduled for June 2, 2029, as it now enjoys an advantage over Wembley Stadium, pending the final decision from UEFA.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Barcelona's bid, supported by the City of Barcelona, the Catalan Government, the Spanish Football Federation, and the Spanish Government, surpasses Wembley from UEFA's perspective.

A decision is expected to be finalized during the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece, on September 15.

Spotify Camp Nou is attracting UEFA's attention due to its anticipated capacity of 104,600 spectators following the completion of renovation works, making it the largest stadium in Europe by capacity.

The VIP seating will rise from 2,500 to 9,400 seats, with a double tier of boxes being created between the second and third stands.

Wembley Stadium has a capacity of 90,000 spectators, and it has already hosted the UEFA Champions League finals in 2011, 2013, and 2024. Additionally, it will host the semi-finals and final of the European Championship a year before the Champions League final for the 2028/2029 season.

The old Wembley hosted the finals in 1963, 1968, 1971, 1978, and 1992, before it was demolished and rebuilt.

The incomplete renovations at Spotify Camp Nou do not currently pose an obstacle for UEFA, which is well aware of the details of the renovation project. The installation of the roof is scheduled for next summer.

The visits by federation officials to the renovation works have granted the green light for the stadium to host Champions League matches again in December 2025.

Barcelona's extensive capabilities in airports and hotels enhance its bid, especially when compared to Budapest, which faced logistical issues last May.

In the same meeting, UEFA will also announce the host stadium for the 2028 Women's Champions League Final, where San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao is competing against Groupama Stadium in Lyon, St. Jakob-Park in Basel, and Rams Park in Istanbul.

San Mames hosted the 2024 final where Barcelona clinched the title against Olympique Lyon with a score of 2-0. The 2027 final is set to take place at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.
