Sibari Refuses to Hold Beer Cup in Bayern's Traditional Outfit Debut

Moroccan Ismail Sabiri caught the eye during his first participation in Bayern Munich's traditional photoshoot in full lederhosen attire, but he declined to hold the beer cup, adhering to his religious beliefs.

Bayern Munich held its annual traditional kit photoshoot on Monday, August 24, in the Nockherberg area of Munich, in collaboration with sponsor Paulaner, in preparation for Oktoberfest.

Sibari participated for the first time in this tradition after joining Bayern Munich, where he appeared wearing leather pants and the traditional shirt, but he deliberately chose not to hold the beer cup, due to his Islamic faith and abstaining from alcohol for religious reasons.

Sabari was not the only player to appear without the trophy during the photo session, as Michael Olese and Arijon Ibrahimovic made the same decision.

The Moroccan player spoke about his first experience with traditional attire, expressing his happiness to participate in this occasion. He stated in an official Bayern Munich statement: "This is the first time I wear this beautiful traditional outfit with the leather pants."

He added: "I am really excited to visit the October Festival with the whole team," pointing out that getting to know the culture of the city and the country where he plays football is important to him.

Sibari is 25 years old and has joined Bayern Munich during the current summer transfer window from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, signing a contract with the Bavarian club that runs until 2031.

This is not the first time a Bayern Munich player has participated in the traditional photoshoot without holding the beer cup, as Michael Oliseh, Sasha Boey, and Lenart Karl made the same decision last year.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic appeared without the trophy in a 2024 photoshoot, while former team stars Sadio Mane and Franck Ribery had taken the same stance in previous years.

Sibari's participation in the event reflects a balance between honoring one of Munich's prominent traditions and maintaining his beliefs, while also expressing a desire to engage with and learn about the local culture.

The Moroccan player recently made his official debut for Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup. This marks the beginning of his journey with the Bavarian club.
