Real Sociedad Set to Sign Mamadou Sarr from Chelsea

Senegalese defender Mamadou Sar, a player for Chelsea, is close to joining Spanish side Real Sociedad on a one-season loan, according to The Athletic.

Sar, 20, did not feature in Chelsea's Premier League season opener against Fulham, as he is close to leaving the club temporarily in search of greater first-team involvement.

Sarr has joined Chelsea from Strasbourg in the summer of 2025 for around €14 million, with a contract extending until 2033.

He spent the first half of last season on loan at Strasbourg, where he made 18 appearances, before Chelsea called him back in February 2026.

The Senegalese defender has played seven matches with Chelsea's first team, six of which came after his return from loan. He hopes that his new experience in Spain will provide him with the opportunity to play regularly and regain his developmental path, especially with Real Sociedad participating in the Europa League.
