Al-Zawraa Welcomes Diego Osio to the Squad

Al-Zawraa has officially announced the arrival of their new foreign player, Venezuelan defender Diego Osio, to the ranks of the "Nawaris." This signing aims to bolster the team's defense ahead of upcoming local and Gulf competitions.

Diego began his group training today with the team at the club's stadium, after arriving in the capital Baghdad about two days ago, and undergoing medical examinations and a quick rehabilitation program to join the group.

The coaching staff of Al-Zawraa, led by coach Basim Qasim, is looking to make Osio the necessary addition to the backline, especially after a season start that has seen them concede goals and suffer consecutive draws.

The team is struggling with some defensive weaknesses and wants to shore them up with a player who has international experience, height, and the ability to play well in aerial duels. These are the qualities that the 27-year-old Venezuelan defender possesses.

Diego has been signed from Venezuelan club Deportivo La Guaira, which competes in the Venezuelan Primera División. The player also has international experience, having previously played for the Venezuela national team against Iraq in a friendly match held before the World Cup, where the "Lions of Mesopotamia" lost 2-0.

Diego's arrival is part of Al-Zawraa's strategy to bolster the team across multiple fronts. After strengthening the attack and midfield, it was time to focus on defense to build a balanced team capable of competing for the Iraqi Premier League title, which has eluded them since 2017, as well as making a deep run in the Gulf Clubs Champions League, where Al-Zawraa has been drawn into a tough group.

Club sources confirmed that Diego immediately joined the team training today, and the coaching staff is betting on getting him ready as soon as possible to be fit for the match against Naft Maysan in the third round of the league scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday.
