The Spanish refereeing committee has appointed Alejandro Quintero Gonzalez to officiate the match between Elche and Barcelona, scheduled to take place on Sunday evening at the Martinez Valero Stadium.

Quintero Gonzalez is 33 years old and is in his third season in the Spanish top flight. He is considered one of the promising referees in Spanish football. Meanwhile, Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez is serving as the Video Assistant Referee.

Quintero has previously officiated three matches for Barcelona, during which the Catalan team achieved two victories and suffered one defeat. Barcelona lost to Leganés 1-0 at Montjuïc, before bouncing back with wins against Real Sociedad 4-0 and Real Mallorca 3-0.

During a match against Barcelona, the referee showed a red card to Eustondo after he fouled Dani Olmo while he was through on goal for Real Sociedad.

The match between Real Madrid and Celta Vigo witnessed one of the most notable incidents in Juan Quintero's career, as three players from the royal team were sent off at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Fran Garcia was the first to be sent off in the 64th minute after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession. Referee Quintero then issued a direct red card to Alvaro Carreras in the 91st minute for misconduct towards the referee. Finally, Endrick, who was on the bench, was also shown a direct red card for the same reason.

Quintero faced criticism from the Madrid media following that match, alongside several referees.
