Egyptian League Stats Ahead of 2026/2027 Season
The Egyptian Premier League is preparing for its launch at the start of the 2026-2027 season, marking its 68th edition, after the competition's history has spanned 78 years since its first appearance in 1948.
Al Ahly tops the historical champions list with 45 titles, followed by Zamalek with 15 championships, then Ismaily with 3 titles. Meanwhile, each of El Sharkia, Olympic, Ghazl El Mahalla, and Arab Contractors has won one title.
The first match in the history of the league kicked off on October 22, 1948, with Zamalek winning against Al Masry 5-1. Mohamed Amin scored the first goal of the competition, while Saad Rostom netted the first hat-trick.
The tournament saw the biggest victory when Al Masry defeated Beni Suef 11-0 in the 1963-1964 season, while Saleh Selim scored 7 goals in the match between Al Ahly and Ismaily, which ended 8-0.
Hassan El Shazly tops the all-time scorers list with 173 goals, followed by Hossam Hassan with 168, then Abdullah El Said with 128, El Sayed El Dazawy with 127, and Mostafa Riyad with 122 goals.
El-Shazly also retains the record for the most goals in a single season, having scored 34 goals with Al-Tersana in the 1974-1975 season. Meanwhile, Al Ahly and Zamalek remain the only clubs that have never been relegated to the second division.
Hossam Hassan stands at the top of the players with the most league titles, having won 14 trophies, including 11 with Al Ahly and 3 with Zamalek. The Egyptian league continues to write its history with numbers and stars.
