The Asian Football Confederation has officially announced Al-Shorta's fixtures in the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2, after the "Qithara" secured their continental participation by finishing second in the Iraqi Premier League last season. Al-Shorta returns to the continent's second tournament with a new look and clear ambition to advance beyond the group stage and go far, benefiting from playing three matches at home in Baghdad. Al-Shorta has been placed in Group D of the tournament. They will kick off their campaign on September 16, 2026, hosting Oman's Al-Sib at Al-Zawraa Stadium, in what represents a strong start against one of the oldest clubs in the Gulf. In the second round, the team will travel to India to face East Bengal on October 13, 2026, at Kriirangan Stadium, marking the team's first external test. The third round brings the Qithara back to Baghdad, where they will host Jordan's Al-Hussein Irbid on October 27, 2026, at Al-Zawraa Stadium, before facing them again away in Amman on November 3, 2026. In the fifth round, Al-Shorta will visit Al-Sib on November 24, 2026, at Al-Sib Stadium, before concluding their group matches by hosting East Bengal on December 8, 2026, at Al-Zawraa Stadium. The coaching staff, led by Sami Al-Trabelsi, is now required to utilize the upcoming preparation period to devise a strategy suitable for each match, focusing on achieving maximum points at home and compensating with points from away games. Al-Shorta's arrival in this tournament came after a remarkable domestic season, finishing in second place, confirming that they remain one of the pillars of Iraqi football capable of representing the country on a continental level. The Qithara fans are eagerly awaiting an Asian campaign worthy of the club's name, especially since the tournament's new format offers greater opportunities for clubs to advance and achieve a continental achievement that has been absent from Iraqi cabinets for years.
