Official: Barcelona Signs Rodri
Barcelona has officially announced that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City regarding the transfer of Spanish midfielder Rodri to the Catalan club, with the player set to remain at the club until June 30, 2030.
Barcelona stated on its official website that Rodri, born in Madrid on June 22, 1996, plays as a defensive midfielder and is considered one of the best players in the world in his position, thanks to his tactical intelligence, calmness on the ball, ability to regain possession, and passing accuracy.
Rodri began his career in the youth sector of Atlético Madrid, before continuing his development at Villarreal, where he made his first appearance in La Liga. After shining there, Atlético Madrid brought him back to their ranks in 2018, and he then moved to Manchester City in 2019 following a standout season under Diego Simeone.
Throughout his time at Manchester City, Rodri has played a crucial role thanks to his consistent performance and ability to control the tempo of matches and lead the team. He has contributed to winning several titles, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League in 2023, after scoring the decisive goal that secured the club's first European title in its history.
On the international stage, Rodri played a pivotal role in Spain's triumph at Euro 2024, an achievement that has solidified his position among the best players in the world. In the same year, he also won the Ballon d'Or and was instrumental in Spain's recent World Cup victory alongside eight Barcelona players, earning the tournament's Best Player award.
Rodri is known for his ability to read matches, anticipate opponents' movements, regain possession, and distribute the ball with great precision. He can also contribute offensively and score crucial goals despite playing in a defensive position. His professionalism, humility, and work ethic stand out, as he embarks on a new chapter with Barcelona until the summer of 2030.
