Jose Mourinho, the manager of Real Madrid, is facing a dilemma in midfield, as there is no player capable of creating plays and building attacks from the back. He has been requesting the signing of a player with these qualities since the beginning of his tenure, but the club has yet to secure the deal he desires.

According to "Mundo Deportivo," Rodri was the top candidate for the role, with his transfer to Real Madrid seemingly close to completion. However, the player chose to move to Barcelona, leaving Mourinho without the player he had requested.

Real Madrid has informed Mourinho that there will be no new signings unless any player departs from the team, with the club confident in having several players capable of filling the midfield position.

During the preparation period, Mourinho conducted several experiments with the midfield duo in a 4-2-3-1 formation, where Aurélien Tchouaméni appears to be the frontrunner for one of the positions, with Eduardo Camavinga as a backup option, while Federico Valverde played the defensive midfielder role against Schalke.

Jose Mourinho has experimented with Arda Güler in the playmaking role, but he currently seems more convinced of the abilities of Portuguese star Bernardo Silva. Silva has taken on this role during recent friendly matches, demonstrating his capacity to contribute defensively, build play from the back, and connect with Real Madrid's forwards.

Bernardo Silva is the leading candidate to fill this role against Espanyol in Real Madrid's La Liga opener, especially since he excels in multiple positions, having also featured on the right wing and as a playmaker, unless a surprise signing occurs.
