Güler Set to Prove Himself Under Mourinho at Real Madrid
Turkish player Arda Güler, now 21, is preparing for a new phase under the guidance of coach José Mourinho. This is the same age at which Mesut Özil joined the Spanish giants, where the Portuguese manager helped him reach his peak over three seasons.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Güler has the chance to follow in Özil's footsteps, given their similar age and distinctive left foot, along with his talent that is still developing. The Turkish player spent three seasons at Real Madrid, scoring 18 goals and providing 24 assists.
Güler has known Özil since they played together at Fenerbahçe during the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons, where the German star described him as the future number 10, emphasizing that he has the talent to become a world-class player, before Güler inherited the number 10 shirt at the Turkish club.
Güler excelled during Real Madrid's pre-season, being the fifth most used player in friendly matches against Fiorentina, Ferencváros, La Coruña, and Schalke, having played 267 minutes, despite the fierce competition for midfield and attacking positions.
Güler's chances of starting against Espanyol in the second round of La Liga are rising, especially since Jude Bellingham has only played 29 minutes during the friendlies and needs to regain his competitive rhythm, while the Turkish player currently has the edge in readiness.
This represents an important opportunity for Güler to convince Mourinho, who relies on players' performances rather than their names. However, the Turkish player will need to translate his technical touches and impressive passes into consistent impact at Real Madrid.
