Newcastle Set to Make Improved Bid for Lucas Bergvall
Newcastle United is preparing to submit a new and improved offer to Tottenham for midfielder Lucas Bergvall during the current summer transfer window.
CaughtOffside reports that Steven Bergwijn's future has become a topic of interest, as his standing at Tottenham has diminished since the arrival of coach Roberto De Zerbi. He did not start any of the last six matches for the team last season.
According to "Football Insider", Bergvall's stance has not changed, and he is still open to leaving in search of regular first-team opportunities, amid interest from Newcastle.
The player had previously shown a desire to leave earlier in the summer due to a lack of appearances, while competition for his position may increase following Tottenham's signings of Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes.
Newcastle is looking to rebuild its midfield after the departures of Tonali and Bruno Guimarães, and sees Bergvall as a suitable fit for its new project, having previously made an offer that was rejected, before preparing to submit an improved bid.
Bergwijn's contract with Tottenham runs until 2031, while the London club is asking for more than £50 million to agree to his departure, putting Newcastle in a new test to convince Tottenham of the anticipated offer.
