Romero Passes Medicals Ahead of Atletico Madrid Move
Argentinian defender Cristian Romero has successfully completed his medical examinations in preparation for his transfer to Spanish side Atletico Madrid during the current summer transfer window.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Romero will sign a five-year contract with Atletico Madrid, keeping him at the club until June 2031.
Tottenham has reached a preliminary agreement with Atletico Madrid regarding the transfer of the Argentine defender to the Spanish side, in a deal worth around £34.2 million, including add-ons.
Sky Sports has reported that the agreement also includes Tottenham receiving 15% of the value from any future resale of Romero.
Cristian Romero was previously linked with a transfer to Inter Milan, but the Italian club is now close to finalizing a deal for former Tottenham defender Jed Spence.
The agreement between Tottenham and Atletico Madrid is expected to open the door for Cristian Romero to embark on a new experience in La Liga, after spending several seasons with the London club. Romero has become one of Tottenham's standout defenders since his move from Atalanta and has even captained the team.
