Official: 2027 Spanish Super Cup to be Held in Turkey
The 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be held at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, from February 2 to 7, 2027, after it could not be hosted in Saudi Arabia due to the scheduling of the Asian Cup at the same time.
The Spanish Football Federation has announced the exceptional hosting of the tournament in Turkey, following an agreement to host the next edition, which will feature Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, and Atletico Madrid.
Istanbul was chosen after a period of work and negotiations, during which seven bids from different locations around the world were studied. The selection process involved the company "Sela," which has been collaborating with the Spanish Football Federation in developing the tournament since its inception in Saudi Arabia.
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reports that the Super Cup will take place in Istanbul from February 2 to 7, 2027, a later date than usual for the tournament.
The agreement to hold the tournament in Turkey guarantees the continued benefits that Spanish football receives from the Super Cup, which are directly allocated to nearly a thousand clubs across various categories for both men and women in Spain.
The tournament includes four of Spain's top clubs, set to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028. Barcelona, the La Liga champions, will face Atletico Madrid, the Copa del Rey runners-up, in the semifinals, while Real Sociedad, the Copa del Rey champions, will take on Real Madrid, the La Liga runners-up.
