Xavi Simons Welcomes Xavi Hernandez Appointment
Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons of Tottenham has welcomed the appointment of Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez as the new head coach of the Netherlands, in a message that carried a special significance due to the connection between their names.
Simons posted an old photo with Xavi Hernandez from his playing days at Barcelona on his social media accounts, writing: "The name that inspired my name. Welcome to the Netherlands, Mr. Xavi Hernandez."
The story behind the name Simons stems from his parents' admiration for a former Barcelona star. His mother revealed earlier that they had not decided on their child's name at birth, until they watched a Barcelona match, where Xavi Hernández's presence on the pitch influenced their choice.
Simmons joined Barcelona's academy in 2010, before making his mark in the football world and becoming a prominent player for the Dutch national team, now finding himself under the guidance of the player who inspired his name.
