Mourinho stated after the match in remarks to Real Madrid TV: "It was a serious match against a team that has returned to the league. This competition has great traditions for them, and they gave it their all. They forced us to play seriously, and it was a tough match."

He added: "Of course, I had to make changes because I want to give all players the opportunity. I don't want the same players to get a lot of minutes. Today, Valverde played 45 minutes and Arda Güler played 45 minutes."

The Portuguese coach explained: "It's not that this match was only about winning, although we wanted to win it, but primarily it was about work, giving players minutes, and conducting experiments."

Mourinho stated: "What I like is that in a match this difficult and with this number of changes, the team played for the result, not just for the players or the structure and roles. We will play many matches like this in the league, especially away from home, where you can't always secure the win."

He added: "When you manage to secure the match, you win, even if the victory is 1-0, like today. The positive thing is that the team is developing. There are five players working at Valdebebas who weren't with us here, and you know who they are. We are progressing step by step, and next week we will be more serious."

Regarding the team's development: "The team is progressing in every aspect, but it's natural for matches to become more difficult, as we organized these games to gradually raise the level of challenge."
