Official: Xavi Hernandez Appointed Head Coach of Netherlands

The Dutch Football Association has announced the appointment of Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez as the new head coach of the Netherlands national team, succeeding Ronald Koeman, after both parties reached an agreement on a contract that will run until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

Xavi stated after taking the role that coaching the Netherlands national team is a great honor for him, noting his special connection to Dutch football due to his upbringing in Barcelona's academy and the influence of Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels, along with the roles played by Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard in his career.

The Spanish coach explained that the philosophy of the Dutch national team aligns with his ideas, particularly regarding attacking play, possession, creativity, and passion. He emphasized that the primary goal is to achieve victories while providing football that the fans enjoy.

Nigel de Jong, the Director of Football at the Dutch Football Association, confirmed that Xavi's experience as both a player and a coach, along with his belief in possession, initiative, and attractive attacking play, made him the right choice for the next phase.

Xavi has had a remarkable career as a player, having spent 17 seasons with Barcelona, where he won eight La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League trophies, and two FIFA Club World Cups. He also triumphed with Spain, winning the European Championship in 2008 and 2012, as well as the World Cup in 2010.

Xavi began his coaching career with Al Sadd in Qatar before returning to Barcelona as head coach in November 2021. He led the team to victory in the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga during the 2022/2023 season.

The Dutch Football Association has clarified that the formation of its coaching staff will be completed in the coming weeks, with intentions to include Dutch elements in the team.
