Slot Explains Why He Turned Down Dutch National Team Job

Arne Slot, the former manager of Liverpool, has disclosed the reasons behind his decision to turn down the opportunity to coach the Netherlands national team in recent times, particularly following the Dutch exit from the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 32.

Slot stated: "At this stage of my career, I prefer to be on the pitch with my players daily, which is not possible with national teams."

The Dutch coach added: "It would be a great honor for me to coach my national team one day, but this is not the right time for me."

Slot's name had emerged as a candidate to take charge of the Dutch national team following Ronald Koeman's departure, but the coach has decided to exclude himself from the running, preferring to wait for a new opportunity in club football.

Slot's stance comes after his departure from Liverpool at the end of last season, as the Dutch coach is currently seeking a new project within European football, while insisting on the idea of daily work with players instead of relying on the short gathering periods offered by national teams.
