Germany Reintroduces Standing Areas for National Team Matches After 25 Years

The German Football Association (DFB) has announced the return of standing tickets for national team matches, marking a significant change in policy after 25 years. This decision aims to enhance the matchday experience for fans and reflects a growing trend towards more inclusive and vibrant stadium atmospheres.

The decision will be implemented starting from the upcoming matches of the German national team in the UEFA Nations League, where fans will be able to watch the games from the stands while standing, in a move aimed at enhancing the atmosphere of support and the culture of fans during the national team's matches.

The German Football Association stated: "By reintroducing standing tickets, the German Football Association wants to send a signal in favor of fan culture at national team matches."

The German national team is scheduled to play two upcoming matches against Greece on September 27 in Augsburg, and Serbia on October 1 in Munich, where general admission will be available for fans.

The association explained that standing areas have been a hallmark of German football for decades, and it seeks to bring this vibrant and diverse atmosphere to the matches of the senior men's team, the women's team, and the Under-21 team.

The decision comes after the UEFA Executive Committee decided to extend the standing areas program, which began in the 2022-2023 season with the participation of ten associations, until the 2026-2027 season, expanding it to include all competitions.

The 'Yellow Wall' at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, home of Borussia Dortmund, is the most famous example of standing terraces in Germany and one of the most prominent features of fan culture in European football.
