Courtois: My thoughts on Mourinho, aiming for titles
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spoke in an interview with the club's official channel, marking his return to team training after his holiday following participation in the World Cup.
Courtois stated, "I returned a little earlier than expected because after the injury I wanted to make sure everything was alright, by doing individual training before rejoining the team. I have already completed a special training session for goalkeepers and felt very good, and I am happy to be back in training."
He added: "Mourinho is a coach who demands a lot, places great importance on discipline, and prioritizes the group over individualism. For me, these are important aspects for achieving victory. He is a great coach, and as a person, he is very close to the players. He speaks the truth, and that is something I love. I believe this is the mentality we should follow."
He added: "I worked with Mourinho at Chelsea, and we managed to win the Premier League. I have very good memories of him, and I am happy to work under his leadership again. We hope to work well together and have beautiful years here."
Regarding the new season: "We have a great desire. Personally, I want to win titles. This is important for the team, the fans, and the club, and returning to winning titles is important for us."
He added: "After the World Cup and the injury I suffered, I wanted to get back to my good condition quickly, and that’s what happened, so I can be ready for tomorrow's training. There are many new players, some of whom we know because we played against them, but the World Cup ended very late this year, and it’s not easy for the coach to integrate all the players gradually."
The coach stated: "He has given everyone a good break, and this is important for clearing the mind, because the season is very long. If you start too fast, injuries come early. We will regain our rhythm quickly because we haven't stopped for long, and we will be in good shape."
The coach stated: "We need to reach our best readiness and continue our preparations. The team is in good shape. The match against Ferencváros was good, everyone is regaining their rhythm, and the young players are performing wonderfully, which is also a great thing."
He concluded: "In the end, we are preparing for the start of the season, as the league kickoff is approaching and it will be tough, with strong matches ahead. The beginning is extremely important. I hope we start well and finish August with 9 points out of 9, and continue our journey."
