Mourinho: These matters are beneficial for me, Silva can play in multiple positions
José Mourinho, the manager of Real Madrid, appeared in a press statement following the 2-1 victory over Ferencváros during the friendly match held as part of the preparations for the new season in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
The coach said: "First of all, I would like to thank Ferencváros for this excellent training session. They have played five matches in the Europa League, in addition to two league games, and you can see their great enthusiasm in playing. I liked the first half more than the second, and this does not surprise me; the team we played against in the first half was a team we train with and have played several matches against before, and there is greater harmony among the players on the field. We controlled the course of the match very well."
He added: "Vinícius Júnior and Bernardo joined, who had no chance to play, just a few days of training. We also changed Endrick's position, and we lost some of our organized playing style, but the most important thing is to do everything perfectly and to make some mistakes that allow me to think collectively with the players, analyze them, and continuously improve. A very simple example: in a league match, if you are leading 2-1 in the 47th minute, do not play a long pass, do not lose the ball, and do not end the game with a dangerous free kick, as happened today in the 47th minute; you must know what to do. All those little mistakes that accumulate in those matches are beneficial for me."
Regarding Vinicius' participation: "The most important thing is the contract renewal. It makes him happy and all of us happy. He and Bernardo Silva have only trained for a few sessions. The rest have trained for additional weeks and enter the match feeling fatigued from the intense training we've done. I didn't expect Vinicius Junior to receive the ball from 50 meters out and score today; it's a gradual process. He will definitely be better next Wednesday, and much better the following Sunday in Germany."
The coach stated: "Bernardo Silva is a very important player, but he was also on vacation. He is the type of player who benefits from rest during breaks, and he appeared in much worse physical condition; he needs to develop himself. But he is a fantastic player; he gives us a special attacking option if he plays in a deeper position. If he plays in the 6-8 roles, he provides an excellent passing option. During the match, I noticed he lacked some physical strength, so I moved him to the playmaker position and brought in Cistero to enhance stability in that role. The playmaker position is another role that Bernardo Silva excels in."
He concluded: "Bernardo Silva is a player who can play in three or four positions, and we want the squad to be short - I mean with 20 players plus the injured players who will be out for a while, like Militao, Rodrigo, and Mendy, whom I don't expect to return in the coming weeks - we need a player who can do what Bernardo Silva does, which is play in different positions."
