Pitso Mosimane Returns to Coach South Africa National Team

The executive committee of the South African Football Association has approved the appointment of coach Pitso Mosimane as the new head coach of the South African national team, succeeding Belgian Hugo Broos, who left his position a few days ago.

The approval came during an extraordinary meeting of the executive office of the federation on Saturday, where Mosimane received the support of the members to return to lead the senior national team, pending the completion of some final details before the official announcement of his appointment next week.

Danny Jordaan, the president of the South African Football Association, stated: "The executive committee has approved the appointment of coach Pitso for the Bafana Bafana team, but we still need to finalize some details, and we will officially announce the coach next week."

Pitso Mosimane returns to coach the South Africa national team after more than a decade since his first term with the squad, having taken charge after the 2010 World Cup until 2012. The 62-year-old coach has achieved significant success at the club level, most notably leading Mamelodi Sundowns to the CAF Champions League title in 2016, and then guiding Al Ahly to win the continental championship twice.

Mossimane's anticipated appointment comes after a historic participation by the South African national team in the 2026 World Cup, as the team returned to the tournament after a 24-year absence, and for the first time in its history, reached the knockout stage.
