Al Talaba in Trouble Ahead of Stars League Kickoff!

Al Talaba is facing a dual crisis just days before the start of the 2026-2027 Iraqi Premier League season, with an international ban preventing them from making new signings and an administrative issue threatening their participation. Despite these challenges, the team continues its intensive training in Baghdad in preparation for the tournament.

Al-Student Club finished the last season 2025-2026 in 6th place with 65 points, after 18 wins, 11 draws, and 9 losses. This position did not satisfy the ambitions of the fans and management, who were hoping to be among the top four.

Sources have revealed that Al-Student Club's management received a shock from FIFA, which has prohibited them from registering any new players for three consecutive transfer windows. The decision came in response to complaints filed by former foreign players who demanded their overdue financial entitlements from the club.

Sources indicate that lifting this ban is contingent upon settling debts completely during the current summer transfer window. This crisis has started to impact more than one Iraqi club recently.

The problems do not stop there, as Student Club has not yet obtained the license to participate in the Iraqi Premier League from the Iraqi Football Association, due to a lack of certain administrative and financial requirements.

Sources have confirmed that Al-Aniq's management has only 48 hours to complete the necessary documentation, or they risk being excluded from the start of the season.

The administration is currently working on communicating with supporting entities to secure the necessary liquidity to pay the dues of former players, while also completing the licensing paperwork, especially after the departure of several key players to other clubs.

Al-Student remains one of the influential clubs in Iraqi football, earning the nickname 'Star Factory' for producing prominent players who have donned the national team jersey, such as Hussein Saeed, Adnan Dirjal, and Younis Mahmoud.
