Is Emar Sher Moving to the UAE League?
Emar Sher, the Iraqi national team player and Sarpsborg of Norway, has been the talk of social media in Iraq over the past few hours, following reports of his potential signing with a club in the UAE Pro League during the current summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old player participated in the 2026 World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where he appeared as a substitute for 22 minutes in the match between Iraq and France in the second round of the group stage, which ended with the "Lions of Mesopotamia" losing 3-0.
A source close to the player confirmed that Shir is not considering a move to the UAE league at this time, and that all rumors of negotiations or agreements are unfounded.
The player is enjoying his time at Sarpsborg, receiving regular playing minutes, and his current goal is to assist the team in achieving a higher position in the Norwegian league.
The source added that Imar's participation in the World Cup did not meet expectations, as he did not receive enough chances to showcase his abilities, which is why doors to bigger European leagues did not open for him directly. However, he believes that being present at the global event is a significant gain that will reflect positively on his development with the Norwegian club.
Sher respects his contract with Sarpsborg, which runs until December 31, 2028, and has yet to achieve all the goals he set with the team. However, the source did not rule out the possibility of his departure in the future if he receives a serious offer from a Norwegian or Swedish club, especially since he is being monitored by several teams in both countries.
In the Norwegian Premier League, Aimar played 13 matches with Sarpsborg, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He also participated in two matches in the Norwegian Cup without scoring or assisting.
On the international front, Shir has played 8 official matches with the Iraq national team after the Iraqi Football Association successfully transferred his file from the Swedish federation at the end of last year. His debut with the "Lions of Mesopotamia" came in a match against Jordan in Amman during June 2025.
