Espart catches Flick's eye, nears Barcelona stay

Chavi Espert, a player from Barcelona's academy, continues to attract attention during the pre-season preparations for the new season, surprising the coaching staff led by Hansi Flick with his impressive level in the right-back position.

Espart excelled with the Spain U19 national team at the European Championship, where they claimed the title, playing primarily in the pivot position. He then decided to forgo his summer vacation and return early to Barcelona to work with the first team.

According to Sport newspaper, the 19-year-old player is delivering strong performances at the full-back position, showcasing resilience, maturity, balance, and defensive security, alongside his ability to contribute to build-up play and a clear attacking inclination.

Espart started against Birmingham in Barcelona's second preseason test, showcasing a strong performance that boosted his chances of remaining with the first team.

Flick has shown great admiration for what the player is delivering, stating: "He has shown us, whether in matches or training, that he is a high-level player."

Espart's standout performances come at a time when Barcelona lacks a reliable right-back, with Jules Koundé being the only option. This situation may provide the La Masia graduate with a genuine opportunity to join the first team on a permanent basis.

Esparte has made his intentions clear, stating: "I am happy and enjoying myself. I arrived in good physical condition after the European Championship. My goal is to stay here, and I will try to give 100% so the coach continues to trust me."

The player stated: "I have spent many years at this club, and I know what I need to do and how to take advantage of the opportunities I get."

According to Sport, the player and his entourage are not currently considering offers or the transfer market, as all attention is directed towards continuing to shine in the preparation period and convincing Flick of his ability to compete for a spot in Barcelona's lineup, whether as a right-back, a pivot, or a midfielder.
