Real Madrid Welcomes FIFA's Decision with Official Statement
Real Madrid has welcomed FIFA's decision to abandon the project of selling part of the future commercial rights of its competitions, considering that this step represents a victory for football, its institutions, and its fans around the world.
Real Madrid stated in an official statement that the decision is a positive development for the game, thanking UEFA, the continental and national federations, and all the institutions that stood firmly against the project and contributed to its stoppage.
Real Madrid has affirmed that clubs are the foundation upon which international football is built, as they are responsible for discovering, developing, and preparing players to represent their national teams. The club stressed that the World Cup and national team tournaments represent a public legacy that belongs to the people and fans, and should not be treated as financial assets to be sold for profit.
The statement clarified that the club categorically opposes any attempt to sell future commercial revenues from competitions without bearing the associated costs or risks, emphasizing that clubs alone bear these burdens. Therefore, benefiting from their future revenues without taking on their responsibilities is unacceptable.
Real Madrid has linked its current position to its previous stance on the CVC fund deal with La Liga, emphasizing that it rejected participation in the agreement that tied up part of the clubs' audiovisual rights for 50 years. The club considers that mortgaging clubs' revenues for long periods represents a dangerous precedent that should not be repeated, either in Spain or internationally.
