Williams Reveals: Van Persie Rejected My Apology After Near-Fatal Incident

Former Welsh defender Ashley Williams revealed that Dutch striker Robin van Persie rejected his apology following the infamous incident between them during the Swansea City vs. Manchester United match in 2012.

Williams, then captain of Swansea, shot the ball from close range towards Van Persie's head, who was lying on the pitch after being fouled, coinciding with referee Michael Oliver's whistle for the foul.

The incident sparked widespread anger, particularly from then-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who deemed Williams' actions intentional and extremely dangerous. Ferguson stated that Van Persie "could have been killed," urging the FA to impose a lengthy suspension on the Welsh defender.

Both Williams and Van Persie received yellow cards during the altercation that followed the incident, but Williams did not face any additional punishment after the match.

According to Williams' comments reported by talkSPORT, he later tried to apologize to Van Persie for the incident, but the former Manchester United striker ignored his apology and refused to speak with him.
